Help:FAQ
From WtmcWiki
Please feel free to ask questions. Hopefully people will answer them. In time there should grow a FAQ here in an organic way :-)
- Do I need permission to change anything in the Wiki?
No you don't. Feel free to correct or add anything you feel is necessary. It is not a security bug that allows you to edit, it's the normal way of a Wiki. Only the main page is protected from editing. This is not for undemocratic reasons, but rather to prevent the wiki from becoming a viagra-shop display....
- Who is this Wiki meant for?
The primary target group are the WTMC PhD members. But as a Wiki exists by and only by its community members, anybody involved in STS is invited to take part.
- What use is this Wiki intended for?
Any use that can even remotely be linked to STS ;-) You should primarily think of knowledge transfer, networking, and project co-operation.
- Is registration with a username obligatory?
No it is not, but it is highly recommended. It makes changes more easily tracable; otherwise they are registered by ip number only, which is not quite recognisable.
- What about the copyright of my contribution to this wiki?
The basic attitude in contributing to the wiki should be the sharing of thoughts with others. Things you want to keep hold of, should be published through other means. Besides, you should count with peers editing your texts mercilessly, so ideally in the end a text becomes a co-production, not actually belonging to one person. As most of the texts will be relevant primarily for the scholarly community with its tradition of acknowledgement of sources, it is not likely that someone else will steal your credits. But as to respect the copyright of others, don't publish texts here that are not yours.
- What is a 'Minor Edit'?
Well, a Minor Edit is just a minor edit. Think of typos, wrong years, invalid links, etc. Marking edits as 'minor' gives others the opportunity to exclude them from the overview in recent changes, thus allowing them to concentrate on content. It is an aid to keep editing the wiki efficient.
